Destiny

As we study Esther, the themes of Sovereignty and Destiny have been coming up a lot. I'd like to hear about how God has been guiding your life. How have you noticed lately that God's hand has been guiding you. Be as specific as possible. This week's lessons on destiny have been very enlightening and challenging. What about you? It's your turn. Please comment.

I'll start the comments and hope others join in.

I think my destiny is heaven and recently as I strive to seek God's will through prayer and scripture, I'm holding on to Proverbs 3:5-6. Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.

This comment was left on the last post by "anonymous" and I thought it was worth repeating:

I loved the part where Beth was teaching on the timing of the announcement that the Jews would be destroyed. The fact that it was probably the day that the Jews of Persia would have been celebrating Passover was so incredible to me! One of my favorite parts of any Bible study is finding these examples of the wisdom and the intricate detailing of God nestled in the Word just waiting to be uncovered. Nothing catches our God by surprise...in fact, He was/is several steps ahead of Satan's plans! And more than that, He provides us comfort and peace in all situations if we will only look to Him!

This thought has been running through my mind - “for such a time as this” -- and I remember when Kurt Warner spoke after the Super Bowl win some years ago -- he praised God and said that he thought God brought him there for such a time as this. Others have quoted the famous quote from Esther. They have usually done something great. As I thought about it this week I realized that I have done nothing that can measure great next to what they have done. So this question as to detailing our path and how God has lead us toward our destiny gave me pause. How many “for such a time as this” moments have I had? Certainly none as big as Esther or even Kurt Warner. I wondered if others were not writing here for the same reason - we feel we have not accomplished something great enough to write about.

As I studied our daily work, I realized God guides us not only through scripture but, like Esther, through circumstances and not only for great things but just through ordinary lives. We often don’t realize the guiding hand of the Holy Spirit until we look back. Later on we see how God wove events together to accomplish His will in our lives. It was with that thought that I recognized some “for such a time as this” moments. I worked at one company for 34 years and through the years as I worked different assignments I was promoted in areas of work that were beyond my wildest dreams. It was "for such a time as this" that God lead me step by step and looking back, I could see His hand at work in my life and my decisions. When I held my babies I could only imagine what life would be like raising two boys and I wondered what kind of men they would become. God led me through those years and His guidance was "for such a time as this" as I see them now, strong Godly men with children of their own - it was for "such a time as this" that He guided me to be in this place at this church.

I could go on and on through every area of my life. Nothing big, no seemingly “for such a time as this” moments. Yet, through over 70 years of circumstances, I am here praising my God, worshiping with sisters and brothers in Christ, loving Jesus more than before, thanking my God and knowing that He has guided me throughout my life "for such a time as this."

I have not had the motivation to even open thev computer lately. but know that I have this is something that I have been thinking about that a lot lately. I am wondering if what I have been doing for the past month or so is my "for such a time as this" moment. The main emphasis of my prayer lately has been, God's plan for my life. As Wanda said in her comment. God may have set us up for many moments like that in our lives. I am so confused. Anyway, I have chose the verse below to meditate on to help me through this time:
Galations 6: 9-10 NIV
Let us not become weary in doing good,
For at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Therefore as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people,
Especially to those that belong to the family of believers.

That's a good verse, hiker-mama. Hang in there and keep memorizing and meditating His word and putting it into practice. That's how we know God's will. That's how we know when it's our "for such a time as this" moments. Psalm 107:20 states: "He sent forth His word and healed us." Girlfriends, that's how we get healed - through God's word....stay in His word, continually!
